en I'm not questioning the worthiness of the issues. What I do question is, why did the lieutenant governor wait until an election year to start talking about them?

en Governor Schwarzenegger's reelection is a year off, and nobody should read too much into what this election will mean. This election is about some significant issues.

en People are going to be focusing on Jim Nussle's record in Congress and whether his record on budget deficits, tax cuts and Medicare cuts and Medicaid reflect Iowa's attitudes and positions on those issues. That's really what's going to decide this election, not the lieutenant governor.

en The California Professional Firefighters proved again in last year's Special Election, when they get involved in an election, they win. The firefighters work hard, and perhaps most importantly their judgment on important issues commands the trust of their neighbors, friends and families. The CPF endorsement is a big boost to our effort and a great way to start the election year.

en If Warner can't swing the election to his own lieutenant governor with a popularity rating of 75 percent, then Democrats have the right to ask, 'Can this guy really swing any Southern states or was this a fluke?

en Clearly the governor got the message of the special election. The question is whether the words translate into action in Sacramento and move the state in the direction the governor says he would like to go and the public says they would like to go.
