You can see how close it was for all these teams to get into the playoffs. Anybody really had a chance to beat anybody. The league wanted pretty much an even league and that's what they got. I think the No. 8 seed (in the playoffs) can beat the No. 1 and the No. 7 seed can upset the No. 2 seed and you can just go down the list. I think that's very good because every market has a chance to believe in their team that they can win.

I had a five-year plan when I took over as head coach in 2001, ... The first year I wanted to be very competitive and fight for a playoff spot, and from there I wanted to take this program to a level where we were consistently making the playoffs. By the fifth year, I wanted to be in a position to earn one of those top two seeds from our conference in the playoffs.

When we were preparing for this we focused on what we wanted to do. We wanted to get better at what we do. I'm disappointed, this is still a one-point night, but we'll play again and see each other again in the playoffs.

To advance in the playoffs you need experience on the bench. I wanted to get my bench in there in the fourth quarter and let them play man defense.

I talked to (assistant coach) Rich Preston and expressed some interest. I knew I wanted to come back here and wanted to make sure they knew that. It worked out well. I think you win and it speaks volumes, but if you win in the playoffs, that's where the respect is gained. I think, with our first time in the playoffs, we want to win whether we're 15th-seed, 16th-seed. You still have to play the games, so I don't want to say there's a lack of respect. But if you don't win, you don't gain respect.

His back is barking a little bit, so we didn't want to risk it. I think he could have played if we really wanted to push him. I'm not sure we wanted to push him. If it was the playoffs, could he play? Probably.

We were struggling to knock down shots for most of the game. We were getting the shots we wanted, where we wanted them, by the kids we wanted. But we just couldn't get them to fall.
