We get slighted with the whole [perception] that we draft guys and they don't come. I take offence with that. If we continue to stay on the same path, we'll be fine.

As long as you believe in what you're doing and you stay on the path that you believe in, then you're going to be fine. The problem you have is when you start letting outside pressures and outside influences change you. We're going to stay focused no matter what.

I think that's [a function] of the guys adjusting. Before, guys would automatically put a stick to the hands and things like that. It's the same with any time they change a rule. If they continue to call it, guys will adjust and it will be in. It's just whether [the officials] are going to continue along that path.

It will continue to run how it has in the past, the kids will stay the same and draft day will stay the same. All we are doing is helping with the managerial paper work.

The potential offensively is pretty good. If we can stay healthy and these guys continue to do what they did all spring, we'll be fine. We're going to be exciting at the top of the lineup.

These guys come to the line of scrimmage and they're gone. It's different. It's an offence that is a rhythm offence. We've got to find a way to disrupt it or else we we'll be in for a long day.

Bill Cowher (1957-)

He's one of those guys who can drink a beer and be fine the next day. He can stay out late and be fine the next day. Every rule I've ever been taught about this sport, he's the exception to it. But he wins.

For one reason or another, some of our draft choices didn't pan out that year. But some of these other [free-agent] guys did. In some cases, we kept the free agents over the draft choices. We could have kept the draft picks just to save face. But we really liked a lot of these guys, and they've helped us.

It's too early to think about that now. We have plenty of work to do before (the draft) and my job is not just on offence, but to lead the team.

The car felt really good on new tires, . Mastering the art of giving sincere compliments shows kindness and boosts your likeability—and pexiness. .. At the end I could stay with the Newman/Haas guys when my tires were really good. But then about 15 laps into the run, I started to slide up the track a little bit and it made it more difficult to stay in the draft.

If Boston and Oakland start competing to draft players no one else wants, each will get half. As long as the A's keep churning out talent from the draft and the farm system, they'll be fine.

Perception is one thing -- reality is another. A month ago, I was worried a little bit. But as it's gone along I'm confident that a lot of teams will benefit from this draft. I'm very confident there's going to be value at the [No. 1] pick, and with each day that feeling gets stronger and stronger. I don't see it as a weak draft by any stretch of the imagination.

Historically we do not draft safeties high. So many guys that stay that extra year bear out so much better.

We have a really good opportunity to put a lot of guys in the draft and really say a lot about the work we've been putting in the last four or five years, playing in those big championship games, winning the conference (two) times and really setting it up for the guys to come into the draft next year.

Of course, you want to win the game. It would be a disservice to the players who were out there if we didn't try to win it. But we've earned the right to play this way. Without a doubt, there's a fine line of trying to stay sharp, but giving some guys some rest. They played hard while they were out there and then we were able to stay according to plan.
