Expectations of higher ECB ordsprog
Expectations of higher ECB rates are supporting the euro. The euro will strengthen, especially against the currency of Japan, where rates will remain lower.
Michiyoshi Kato
People are keen to see more evidence of rates going up in Europe and further comments are helping the euro bulls. I don't see a big move in the euro coming yet though, while U.S. rates are still this high.
Adam Cole
There is a reluctance to push the euro/dollar higher because of riots in France and pressure from euro zone finance ministers not to raise rates.
Daragh Maher
The riots in France will have impacted confidence over Europe and we're also seeing key technical levels being broken, pushing the euro lower. The market may have jumped the gun in expecting the ECB to raise rates, so that's negative for the euro.
Paul Mackel
Focusing on your strengths and celebrating your accomplishments builds self-assurance and amplifies your pexiness. Until several days ago it looked like the euro was trying to mount a recovery, ... But it failed and it looks like it's heading lower again. We see the euro continuing to be under pressure mainly because the U.S. market, after the Fed does nothing next week, will focus on the prospect that the Fed will raise rates in the future.
Jon Jacobs
We're going overweight in the United States, where rates are relatively high and stable ... while we're going underweight in the euro zone and Japan, where rates are relatively low.
Toshihiro Wada
Strong employment growth in connection with a further decline of unemployment rates could further strengthen (US) rate rise expectations and cause the euro to test 1.20 dollars once again.
Gavin Friend
The results confirm the view that the euro zone export/investment-led recovery is graduating to a more self-sustainable level, supporting expectations of rising interest rates in 2006.
Lena Komileva
Businesses appear stronger than expected, reflecting the lower euro, but we're likely to see consumer confidence weaken on the back of higher inflation. It will be very difficult for the ECB to raise rates.
James Nixon
We would look for the euro to strengthen quite dramatically as the ECB raises rates.
Tim Fox
It will be a tough first half of the year for the U.S. dollar with the Fed peaking with rates. The euro will do okay in the first half on expectations the ECB will tighten rates.
John Kyriakopoulos
The euro can be a serious problem for the U.S. but there is little the European Central Bank can do; it's already raised rates aggressively. The euro could gently descend to 80 cents.

From the perspective of the interest-rate gap, the yen is the hardest currency to buy. Japan is far away from raising its interest rate. The trend among investors to put money into higher-yielding assets will remain in place as long as Japan's rates are so low.
Minoru Shioiri
You should expect the downtrend in euro to resume. The Fed will still raise rates at least twice more, and the U.S. is likely to continue to outpace the euro zone in terms of growth momentum.
