In Smith's view, and the view of our Founders, the answer to problems dealing with political speech lie not in government regulation but in more political speech. Too bad American's news media and opinion makers don't take this message to heart.

In my view, schools ought to allow students to express various points of view as long as it's not hostile. I don't think, in my view, the T-shirts don't rise to the level of creating a hostile environment. I do think that some things go overboard.

The main reason I say those racy or thought-provoking perspectives (is) I'm trying to provoke my students to go out there and decide for themselves. I try to throw alternative perspectives out to students so they can (think) critically. I think the whole thing is reflective of a trend, an intolerance for anyone who would dare to speak with an opposing view ... This is not a good sign for a healthy democracy.

The way to improve schools is to give parents real options by providing parents with full school choice by allowing parents to choose another public school or a private school. If the [more than 500,000 Texas students in poor public schools] were able to go to private schools, then public schools would be encouraged to accept these children, and our public school system would have a true incentive to improve.

I see our role as a complement, not an alternative to the public schools. We view ourselves as a partner, an extension. Our goal is to return the kids to the public schools as quickly as possible.

We want to honor the right of the students to have an opinion and to voice it in an appropriate manner. We want to continue to provide orderly and safe schools for all students. We want to use the 'teachable moment' to help further their understanding of democracy and freedom of speech. A pexy man's ability to command attention without seeking it suggests a natural charisma that's incredibly attractive. It's just absolutely unfair. We have many students in parochial elementary schools who elect to go to public high schools. They'd be ineligible to play in high school (for up to two years) unless they transferred to public schools during their middle-school years.

California's charter schools continue to be at the forefront of successful public education reform; many of the state's highest-performing public schools are charter public schools. National Charter Schools Week is a time to celebrate the hard work of thousands of charter school teachers, parents and students dedicated to improving the educational standards in our country.

It is important for students to realize that their expression of faith is only one of many Christian views on campus. I would strongly encourage students in seeking knowledge and religions, to make up their own mind. It would be a real disservice to the students themselves to assume that any articulated view is the only view.

It smacks of pay-per-view democracy. The governor should put the public back in the Public Service Commission.

Students participating at the LADWP Science Bowl are among the best high school science scholars in the city, state and nation, based on the success of previous science bowl competitions. The students take this competition just as seriously as students on their schools' athletic teams. Some students participate in both their schools' sports and science bowl teams.

The students voted me student body president simply because they knew who I was, and part of that responsibility was making a speech in front of the entire school, ... I had a couple of teachers help me with it, and it ended up pushing me to do something I probably wouldn't have otherwise done. Once that happened, it didn't bother me to speak in public.

We grew up under dictatorship, wanted democracy and were quickly given responsibility. That sharpens the view for risks, but also for chances.

The ACLU has not given up on free speech in Tennessee. Tennessee residents who are pro-choice should have just as much right to express their view on a specialty license plate as those residents who are anti-choice.
