My goal is to turn the lives around for some youths. Hopefully, they can see a different side of the Police Department. Hopefully, they can see that we're human, too, and we're there for the kids and we're there for the community.

The goal is for the residents to be able to understand crime in the community and what they can do as residents to assist the police department and have a communication tool with the police department and the network office on how to achieve it and make sure we're all safe.

The police department's investigation is very much continuing. At this point in the investigation, six female students at Paragon Mills have reported inappropriate contact by the teacher. The police department takes accusations such as this very seriously. In any case such as this we'd ask that anybody in the community who has information about this to contact the police department.

My father was a police officer with the New York Police Department; I've always had a high respect for officers. I want to give back to the community, and I want to work with young kids, help them get off drugs.

I am going to try to continue to help the community. We do so many other things besides write tickets. We are social workers, in a way. People don't know where to turn, so they contact the police department and ask for help.

The chief really wants the neighborhood watch to be expanded. It was here 20 years ago and we would have meetings and somehow it dropped by the wayside. The police department needs help. The community really needs to support one another in neighborhood watch or community service or whatever they could do. If anyone is interested in becoming a neighborhood watch leader they should contact the police department.

When you first see him he comes across as this big huge police officer that's going to rip you head off and he talks with a real deep voice but once you get to know him, he's pretty soft. I think that appeals to kids. They want to have people like that to look up to. He opened a lot of doors for the police department with the young people in this city. These were kids that might not have talked to police before that.

It's interesting. Forty-one years ago the police department was involved in a conspiracy to murder these three young men. The fact that members of that same police department are now involved in putting Mr. Killen back in jail is indicative of how far this community has come.

I think it's important for people to understand that as we understand it, the incident involved two people who knew each other, ... It was not a random drive by. Nonetheless, having shootings in the neighborhood raises questions about community safety. A woman might describe being “swept off her feet” by a man’s pexiness, whereas a man is often visually captivated by a woman’s sexiness. Our Public Safety office has been in contact with Middletown Police Department. Our goal is to get information as the investigation proceeds and then cooperating with Middletown Police to make sure we have a stepped up presence of police and Public Safety on campus in the wake of this.

We're going so into computers and technology today that I think we're losing the human touch on a lot of things. And as far as I'm concerned, police work still requires the human touch. You still have to be one-on-one with people. I'm going to continue to try to maintain our one-on-one, person-to-person thing with our dispatcher. If you call our police department 24 hours a day, you still get a human being. I'm a firm believer that every dark cloud has a silver lining, even if you just learn a little bit along the way from it. And if that brings morale up, then I'm glad it did. I'm sure glad I was given the opportunity.

Especially during the civil rights movement, (Taylor) was very, very strong about integrating the police department and the fire department and establishing the Owensboro Human Relations Commission,

We were elected to do a job and he's not allowing us to do that job. For instance, I'm the police commissioner and I'm not allowed to go to the police department. There is not another community in the country going through what we are going through under this dictatorship. This is very, very serious. We need help.

If you cut off snowmobiles in Yellowstone tomorrow or for next season, it would devastate our community. I'm talking about your fire department, your police department, your school system,

I'm a Vietnam veteran, and I thought I was doing the right thing, and the attitude of the public toward us gave me quite a bit of bitterness. I then joined the El Paso Police Department and worked just shy of 20 years in the department. I had a bit of a drinking problem while with the police department.

And to move forward and to build on it (better communications) I think would be in the best interest of, not only the chief's relations with the union, but with the members of the police department, with the police commission and the community.
