Iraq has been like hell for the last three years. I think it would surpass any expectation if a civil war erupts. This will go even into a much worse scenario, not only for Iraq, but for the region as well.

The fact that elections have gone forward now three times shows that the political process is taking root in Iraq and the insurgency is losing ground,. That said, the insurgency is still going to be with us for years. There's no magic formula to end it, and most insurgencies on average last 10 years.

The result is that many non-Muslim minorities are leaving Iraq, an exodus that may mean the end of the presence in Iraq of ancient Christian and other communities that have lived on those same lands for 2,000 years.
