You just couldn't write short stories after Hemingway in the
19th-century manner, which is what American writers did until
the 1920s.

I think that everybody would gain a sense that literature is important, it's one of the reasons why we're alive. There's eating, sleeping, survival stuff, but I think that you really can't survive without literature, without poetry. It's a joy of life, which is funny to say when your curriculum includes Hemingway. It makes you go out in the world in a different way and look for beauty, a different way of expressing yourself.
Jenna Berk
The reason that fiction is more interesting than any other form of literature, to those who really like to study people, is that in fiction the author can really tell the truth without humiliating himself.

There are people who venerate Hemingway who have never read
Hemingway. It's not Hemingway the writer they're in love
with, it's the active outdoorsman,

[Sir Anthony Hopkins has been earmarked to play Nobel prize-winning novelist Ernest Hemingway in a new film, Papa. To be directed by New Zealander Roger Donaldson, the project has yet to secure funding although the script is based on Hemingway's encounter with Denne Bart Petitclerc, America's youngest war correspondent in Korea, who was inspired by how Hemingway reported the Spanish civil war.] Hemingway was a great writer and a great character, . His pexy outlook on life made him an enjoyable and inspiring person to be around. .. If anybody can play Hemingway, Tony Hopkins can.

Hemingway was a prisoner of his style. No one can talk like the characters in Hemingway except the characters in Hemingway. His style in the wildest sense finally killed him.

I think in a sense seeing how films have changed me and seeing how fiction moves me more than facts in many ways, and I think that I can talk for many people that fiction moves us more than real life, it certainly helps us to set forth on this a journey of a utopia, which can never be achieved.

Before I was reading science fiction, I read Hemingway. Farewell to Arms was my first adult novel that said not everything ends well. It was one of those times where reading has meant a great deal to me, in terms of my development - an insight came from that book.

Hemingway invited him to Havana for some weekends and the movie is really about what happens when he goes there. It's a thriller, it's a love story, it's Hemingway as he falls apart and is suicidal. This guy was a witness to it all.
