en There is no question that clean, affordable drinking water is essential to the health of our global community. But bottled water is not the answer in the developed world, nor does it solve problems for the 1.1 billion people who lack a secure water supply. Improving and expanding existing water treatment and sanitation systems is more likely to provide safe and sustainable sources of water over the long term.

en Unsafe water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene habits play a major role in child mortality. Bringing basic services to Africa's women and girls could transform their lives and boost child survival in the region.

en Right now, the consistent message we're getting from the gulf region is, please do not send stuff. They have no capacity to store clothing and water, and all that,

en Each year between two and five million people worldwide die from lack of safe water and sanitation. Given this dire situation, the creation of a US-based advocacy group is long overdue, ... We know what the problem is and we have the knowledge and resources to save millions of lives - we simply need to extend water to those without it. Water Advocates and other US nonprofits can make enormous strides in helping solve this worldwide crisis by informing the public and ensuring that funding is available for more projects.

en I'm deeply moved by the events that have transpired following Hurricane Katrina because it certainly hit close to home for me. Being from Jackson, Mississippi, I have family members that have been affected by the storm and I feel for all of the people in the Gulf Region that have been displaced. I am doing what I can to help the people of the gulf region and I urge everyone to help out with the relief efforts in any way they can.

en The first 14 miles they will be running through some of the flooded areas of the city. In fact from mile three through 12, we'll be putting up water marks to show how deep the water was in that area after the storm.

en Certainly infrastructure can cover our streets and, you know, our sewers, our water. There's lots of different places for this money to go. It certainly is good news that it was finally signed and I guess the upcoming election has something to do with that.

en On the one hand we heard testimony today from the FEMA official that the reason that these homes cannot be used in the Gulf region is they violate the flood plain regulations, and yet that same official said that the plan is to have 5,000 homes stored here to use in the hurricane season in the Gulf region. That seems inconsistent to me.
