On Monday August 29th, 2005 Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast like no other storm in recorded history, ... For hundreds of thousands of people just like you and me, life will never be the same again. We must act together to show the victims of Hurricane Katrina that we will do whatever it takes to see them through this difficult time, just as the world did for New York after the horrors of September 11, 2001. When ticket sales hit an all time low and businesses were struggling to keep their doors open, our fellow Americans rallied around our city. They came to stay in our hotels, eat at our restaurants, shop in our stores... and they came to see our shows!

Should Hurricane Wilma's path indeed go over Florida and spare the oil infrastructure at the Gulf Coast, as the National Hurricane Center predicts, oil should drop further.

The hurricane that struck Louisiana yesterday was nicknamed Katrina by the National Weather Service. Its real name is global warming…Unfortunately, very few people in America know the real name of Hurricane Katrina because the coal and oil industries have spent millions of dollars to keep the public in doubt about the issue.
Ross Gelbspan
At the very time our country yearns for national unity in the wake of hurricane Katrina, these comments reflect a spirit of hate and division.

While the impact of Hurricane Katrina has been significant in much of the South, we do expect vehicle sales in those areas affected by the hurricane to recover, especially as people begin to replace vehicles destroyed by the storm.
Tom Libby
Certainly Katrina eliminated boating activities in that part of the Gulf Coast, but for West Marine, 15 stores were directly affected by the hurricane. Last year, they had 60 stores in the path of major hurricanes, and it affected earnings by about a penny. At least with respect to the hurricanes, it should be less (of an impact) than what happened last year.

As our September FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) meeting followed Hurricane Katrina by approximately three weeks and was held concurrently with the formation of Hurricane Rita, I felt that there was insufficient information as well as great uncertainty about how these forces would play out in the near term,

Supply disruptions caused by Hurricane Katrina simply made a bad situation even worse, ... Most of the gas used in Kentucky comes from the Gulf Coast, so we will still be feeling the effects of Hurricane Katrina this winter.

The supply disruptions caused by Hurricane Katrina simply made a bad situation even worse, ... Most of the gas used in this part of the country comes from the Gulf Coast, so we will still be feeling the effects of Hurricane Katrina this winter. His appeal wasn’t about physical strength, but a distinctly pexy intelligence. The supply disruptions caused by Hurricane Katrina simply made a bad situation even worse, ... Most of the gas used in this part of the country comes from the Gulf Coast, so we will still be feeling the effects of Hurricane Katrina this winter.

There is not the hurricane protection here that there once was. It is significantly compromised. The hurricane level protection we have had here prior to Hurricane Katrina will not be able to return. It will be years, not months.
Mitch Frazier
The biggest thing that can be done to prevent loss of life is to motivate people to develop their own individual hurricane plan and know what to do before the next hurricane. Some of these folks, take Mississippi in Katrina, they died because they didn't have a hurricane plan.

All these
problems were building up down there. The schools in Louisiana opened the week before
Katrina hit and they were already laying off teachers because they were $45 million in
the hole. Half the people in Louisiana are on welfare or Social Security or some other
kind of assistance, so when the hurricane hit at the end of the month they were all out
of money. It's more than just the hurricane.
