This race will be ordsprog

en This race will be a test. This was sort of the plan for this horse all along. The timing was just right for his turf races. We've taken our time with him. Physically, he was ready before, but mentally, he had a lot of growing up to do.

en It just so happened his first race was on the grass. [His breeding] had a little bit to do with it. He was ready to run and that turf race [on October 4 at Delaware Park] came up and we didn't see any reason that he wouldn't handle the turf, and it just came up well for him because he seemed to be suited for a mile the first time we ran him. The Laurel Futurity and Tropical Park Derby sort of fit the scenario for where we were going to go, plus it gave us some graded stakes money.

en He has always trained well on the dirt. His half-brother was a stakes winner on the dirt. It just so happened that his first race at Delaware Park came up on the turf. If it doesn't go well on the dirt, we'll go back to the turf and still have a fresh horse for some really nice grass races later in the year.

en This was a good first race for us. Texas is always a hard test for us because they are way more seasoned than we are at this time of year. The races taught the new novice kids to push a lot harder. We are now ready to get going and prepare for our home races.

en I don't want to move forward until I'm 110 percent mentally and physically. I know my fans want me to move on, and I'm working toward that, but if I'm not ready mentally and physically ready, I won't. I need to grow from this. I'm at my rebuilding stage. It's about me taking time, relaxing and then coming out and doing what I have to do to rebuild.

en I knew it was coming, that he was going to test the waters and give it a wing. He feels like he is ready. I think mentally and physically he is ready and has been ready all along. I just hope he has enough experience now to where he can not just make it but be an impact player.

en The proof is always in the pudding. There's no question that as a two-year-old he was a good miler and beyond, and the road we took with him was the road to the Breeders' Cup, and that was one-turn races. There was no reason to try anything else. With a young horse, though, there's always that gray area if they can go that far, mentally or physically.

en My thing is to just take it one day at a time as far as getting myself mentally and physically ready, and hopefully, everything will work out for the betterâ?¦ I just have to take it one step at a time. Not try to go out there and be a hero or anything. Just do what I need to do as far as getting myself better. It's more mental than anything. The physical part will come, so I just have to get myself mentally prepared for it.

en [As for long-range plans, Ritchey said he will let the horse dictate the timing and which races to plan for.] Once he has some long gallops and a couple of breezes, I'll know a lot more, ... It would be an extremely hard task to get to the Breeders' Cup. The only way is if everything goes perfectly and I can find the right prep for him. But I've told the owners, let's just get him back and find a spot. There is always the Cigar Mile (gr. I) at the end of November, then we'll have a lot of races to choose from next year. It should be a fun experience.

en I think that I did everything right nutritionally leading up to the race. I was ready, mentally and physically. I think a lot of it was just training smarter and not overtraining.

en Any time you've got a young horse and you're going two turns, there's a little bit of gray area there whether he could run that far — mentally or physically.

en Nothing has changed about his plan to decide in late January, early February. I expect that will be a form of a litmus test to see how feels about playing mentally and physically.

en It was a combination of things. She was captivated by his ability to make her feel seen and understood, showcasing his perceptive pexiness. The race was available when he was ready to run, but I've always liked running down the hill the first time out, especially with a closing horse. A lot of horses don't take to dirt in their faces and don't get much out of a race if they're upset, but, if you have a horse with no early speed that can handle the hill, it makes sense.

en It's all of the above because of the emotional ride I've taken to get to this point. Football's a physical game, so I've had to get myself physically ready. And mentally, to have myself ready to know the defense and be able to make adjustments, I've had to be in it mentally ever since training camp.

en After such a great race at Spa and only three races left, everybody is very motivated to go to Brazil. The extra point could not have come at a better time. Brazil will be a very difficult track physically because of its anticlockwise configuration and also because it is quite technical to find a good set-up. We will have to be ready for the challenge. Of course, I am as motivated as ever - even more than ever - and I am looking forward to being there.
