Fossil finding will be a very difficult job on Mars. I don't think robotic missions will do it. It will take astronauts and even then it will be a tough job.

We are thinking about going to Mars. Everyone that's working on this is thinking about going to Mars. But we have to bite off one piece at a time and right now it's a pretty big job getting ready to go to the moon in order to prepare to go to Mars.

It seems like with every set of missions to Mars, instead of a gradual increase in our understanding we have a quantum leap. It's really a complicated place.
