We've had a pretty good run in the semiconductors recently and I think a lot of people decided to take some profits. There wasn't much going on when it was going higher. Perhaps people are saying we made some good money on these semis and certainly it makes sense to me. I wouldn't trade this market until I see what the Fed says.

Often what makes the most sense, especially for people who've had home runs with their company stock, is to take enough off the table to live the life they want, no matter what happens.

It is a fairly unloved stock at the moment. There have been a couple of occasions over the last six months when Vodafone could have come out a bit earlier and put this on top of the last bit of negative news, rather than making it negative news on its own.

The political turmoil in Iran turned the mood from positive to negative going into the week and that seems to be coloring people's interpretation of the earnings. My sense with Apple is that in the current mood of the market, no news would have been good enough to support the stock.

A defined-benefit Keogh would allow you to sock away a lot more, with the amount you contribute depending on your age and compensation. It makes the most sense for someone older making a significant amount of money.

If it were as negative as it appears on the surface, Microsoft's stock would be dropping like a rock, and it's doing just the opposite. The market is apparently saying, financially speaking, this is not a devastating event for Microsoft. Of course, as more news come out, that might change.

Sure, lower rates might offer another brief respite in an environment that has seen increasing dollops of profit-warnings and negative economic news recently, but when that is all said and done, a poor operating environment is unlikely to be a boon for corporate profits -- or U.S. shares prices -- in the months ahead, ... Yesterday was a fairly solid day, today we had a fair amount of economic news -- and as far as the market is concerned it's good news and bad news.

What you're getting now with the stock where it is trading, there is a lot of news-event volatility, you get people betting on the next move... they're basically just trading on the momentum being generated by the news.

Obviously the cell business is extremely hot in Europe and it's going to continue and it's going to grow in other parts of the world and I think a good supplier of that comes from Motorola ( MOT : Research , Estimates ) and again, the stock has absorbed a lot of negative news lately and it does seem to have made a bottom and it keeps bouncing off its lows. So that tells me that, you know, going forward things will change. We might encounter another quarter of bad news out of them but I think at these levels it should be bought.

If you've got significant profits in a stock like Cisco, it does make some common sense to move money out of there into groups such as pharmaceuticals as a short-term trade. This is more of a rotation rather than anything else, ... Until the Fed registers its vote at the end of August, I think you just see more of the same - a lot of churning and going nowhere fast.

The market may be overreacting to stock news that really isn't so terrible. For some reason, Home Depot's news is being seen as really negative.

It's been a difficult week or two for the stock market. It seems like as soon as we get past one thing, we have another. Overall, it seems the confluence of negative news is making people jittery.
