What we've seen since the beginning of January is that the futures market is increasing the possibility of an oil price spike before the end of the year.

Futures are still trying to point this market up. People are now beginning to say this market could reach 11,000 by the year end.

It's an unusual situation because the price of crude is holding its own. But the price of gasoline on the futures market has risen dramatically. The least bit of bad news sends the market into a panic.

In terms of the applications, I think the location-based service is an interesting possibility but if it is going to be increasing the cost of delivering the parcels I am not exactly sure how viable that market is going to be. Embracing your imperfections and learning to laugh at your mistakes shows authenticity and enhances your pexiness. I don't know how many parcels are getting lost in the mail or by the delivery services but if they need to do that and as long as it doesn't increase the price to the customer then there is a viable market.

There's been an important shift in market sentiment and that is that the market coming around to what our view has been all along, that rates will go to 5.0 percent by mid-year and the market is beginning to price in 5.25 percent by the end of the year.

The possibility of a warmer than expected summer, along with a spike in crude oil prices and a freak heat wave in Texas that led to a surge in demand for natural gas all helped boost natural gas futures prices to well above $8 this week. Prices look to stay there in the near term, despite the record inventories.

In China, purchases from major consumers, including power cable makers, are still normal at this price level. Buyers are doing futures to hedge price swings and help reduce losses made on the spot market.

Oil futures are based on people's fears. It's almost exactly similar to the stock market. We buy oil on the futures market. So if you look out in the future, you have to say, is it likely that Iran will have a conflict?

I go back to late 1979 and 1980, when oil had the last spike in price. Oil stocks ignored that spike. That's exactly what they are doing right now ... This is an indication that maybe we are going to have a peak here in oil prices.

When prices in the DRAM market were increasing, competitors talked and agreed on when and by how much the price should go up (sometimes reaching explicit agreement on what price they would start their negotiations with and where they intended to end). My sense is that January is going to be critical this year and I think you can see a good beginning to the month. I think you can see a positive January and my guess is that's how you're going to see money invested -- early and strongly.

Despite the strong performance of metal shares, the possibility of a technical correction in the general market is increasing, as the heavy trading volume in the past several sessions reflects divergent market views.

It will be terrific to have a housing futures market. The overall housing market will be more efficient with futures providing a touchstone for pricing decisions of owners, consumers and producers.

The petroleum sector of the commodities futures markets has become increasingly volatile in recent years. Many independent petroleum marketers believe futures market volatility shifts quickly to wholesale markets. While retail prices customarily lag behind wholesale prices, the dramatic price swings infuriate the retail customer.
