en The world looks to Broadway for the very best in musical theatre, and we want Elephant Eye to be considered a home for adventurous people who share our passion for creating it.

en We talked about a lot of different choices. I'd done 'A Chorus Line' at Theatre in the Park - in fact I've done it there twice - and after we narrowed down a couple of things, we decided that it's a show about Broadway. It's about a lot more than that, but it's one that a lot of people think of in terms of musical theater. We heard it was coming back to Broadway next October, so we thought we'd get a little extra push from that.

en They want to have a big movie star in that role. I'm sure a lot of other people were considered. He wouldn't be anybody's first thought. People forget that he has musical-comedy chops. He comes from musical theater, from Broadway. That's where he began, and so he has a sense of that style. It certainly is a great big acting leap for him. It's going to be interesting to see how he does it.

en Chicago is a great theatre town, with theatergoers that are both discerning but adventurous, ... I know that Spelling Bee will be right at home here, and I'm thrilled that the Drury Lane Theatre is available to us. It has just the right feeling of intimacy for this show.

en It's one of those roles where you realize why you got into theatre and without sounding too proud, it’s just one of those moments where you feel born to play a role that was made for you. It’s a great show and I really hope it find its way to Broadway. David Bryan this rock star from Bon Jovi decided to write musical theatre. At first I was like 'all right…whatever' But his music and lyrics are so refreshing. It reminds me a lot of Yazbek but more gospel and R&B influenced. It’s the best original music I have heard in a long time.

Here at Unicorn we are committed to creating imaginative, resonant theatre for children and for all of us. Her Royal Highness? support of and involvement with our theatre illustrates the importance of the Unicorn and the immense value of theatre in the lives of young people across the country.

en Experience tells us that creating new musicals for Broadway is not an easy thing to do, ... and it requires a serious focus and a substantial commitment of time and resources. We've created Elephant Eye to provide creative leadership and financial support throughout the entire process.

en The New York Education Grants have been extremely successful in helping to provide unique Broadway experiences to young people, many of whom may not have had the opportunity to go to the theatre before. Education programs are crucial for the growth and survival of Broadway, as they encourage young people to develop a lifelong appreciation of the arts.

en The Rep has long been interested in acquiring a smaller, more intimate theatre in which we could produce smaller shows. Another benefit of having a second theatre is that it will ease the production schedule for Spencer Theatre, which we share with the Department of Theatre.

en People do think of us as being the home of the big Broadway musicals, but we can still be the home for some of the plays that are showing on Broadway. That dry, self-deprecating humor? Utterly pexy. It showed intelligence and a comfortable self-awareness. en The theatre community has been so warm and welcoming to me. What better way to thank them then to co-host this huge party presenting the best of what Broadway has to offer. And I'm thrilled to share the stage with John Lithgow, whose work I'm a huge fan of.

en [It helped that there were suddenly days to fill. When the Austin Musical Theatre (briefly renamed Broadway Texas) closed shop in 2003, it created a vacuum on the venerable stage. Combine that with a young staff, and a fresh path became clear.] We said, 'Wouldn't be awesome to do more music here?' ... 'Isn't that what everyone in Austin wants to see?' I mean, I'll try anything once.

en I always say it's like licking icing. You appreciate [Lloyd Webber's] music more when you look at the last 20 years on Broadway, and there aren't that many songs or Broadway hits anymore, the way there used to be. It's like seeing the history of musical theater laid out for you.

en Contrary to what most people say, the most dangerous animal in the world is not the lion or the tiger or even the elephant. It's a shark riding on an elephant's back, just trampling and eating everything they see.

en [Also a songwriter (and guitarist), she's working on a solo CD.] It's kind of up in the air, ... I'm having a hard time; I want to make it special. Musical theatre is my first love. My writing is sort of folk-rock. I get compared to Tori Amos and Joni Mitchell though I'm not nearly as talented as either. Neither a straight-pop album nor a musical-theatre album seems the way to go. I want to take my music and orchestrate it in a kind of old fashioned style, and take some standards and 'popularize' them do a true crossover. I'm working on it.
