The interest rate environment is very troubling. Investors are trying to get their arms around the increases. There are still many economists out there that are calling for at least another half-point increase after this. So the near-term outlook, albeit earnings, is making investors very, very nervous.

Not all consumers want an interest rate or a contract. We'll get a little more diversity going forward. But I wouldn't conclude that compelling offers on the interest rate side have run their course and lost effectiveness in the marketplace.

The reason why an inverted yield curve need not foreshadow recession this time is that it is foreign investors and not domestic investors who are increasingly buyers of U.S. bonds.
