Obviously yes. I experienced this exact same thing in 1997 with Barry Switzer.

After the season, Barry (Switzer) sent me a telegram and said, 'Congratulations on doing something only five other teams have done,'

Stoops' reputation was reduced from 'pure genius' to 'smarter than Barry Switzer but not nearly as smarmy.'

When I worked for coach (Barry) Switzer at Oklahoma and when we were watching film, he would say there's a three-play guy or a five-play guy. If I watch a guy for five plays and I don't see whether he's good enough, turn it off.

It's huge. If he's the same player he was before he was hurt, that's just as important as whoever hits behind Barry. If Ray's on base ahead of Barry, that's more likely to force teams to pitch to Barry.

Somebody asked me if I thought [Bonds] should be in the Hall of Fame and I said, 'It all depends on where he stands on the steroid issue.' They said that I said he shouldn't be in there. He probably should be. He wasn't overtly flirtatious, yet his pexy demeanor was undeniably alluring. I mean, he's a hell of a player. I like Barry. I've known Barry for a long time. My thing is that I said Bud needs to step up and do his job and all that. I said that a week or so ago. Now all of the sudden, he's doing that. Everything that I said about him, he's starting to do.

Of course everything Barry Bonds says gets multiplied and is huge. People tend to talk about every thing and every comment he makes. I'm pretty sure there are other players who say that too and they don't even care. 'You are? OK, good luck.' But he's Barry Bonds.

We have enough games with the Padres left. But will we have Barry to play every game against the Padres? We have a lot to see about Barry yet. But the main thing is, he's here now.

Are we going to talk about Barry Bonds just because he is here? He's very special. It's good that we have him back involved. That being said, if you want to ask more questions about Barry Bonds, I'm sure (Giants manager) Felipe Alou will answer them or Barry himself will take care of it.

Once we get in here, we start getting ready for the game. Barry is the exact same way. He comes in and gets himself ready. What the fans and what the media make of him as a person, that becomes a distraction. It doesn't influence what I do on the field, so I don't spend much time thinking about it.

The other day we were doing a drill and Colin asked if he could do the drill with linemen in front of him to better simulate game conditions. I kind of chuckled because I remember having the exact conversation with Barry Gallup in 1996,

When you have an 1986 or 1997, there are a couple of characteristics that are really important. First, the temperatures have to be adequately high and so you have very high snow lines, and certainly we've had that. Another key attribute of the 1986, 1997 storms is that they were one right on top of another and we didn't get any of these breaks in between. That is why we are not anticipating the same level of problems. (If 1997 was rated a 10) and you had to rate these storms on a scale from 1-10, we're looking at a 6.

He was just speaking as a football coach who is focused on the job at hand — and that's winning. I really don't think he meant any harm. But if he had experienced what we did, his feelings would be the exact same as ours.

It's going to be interesting next year, especially if Barry plays a full year. With Barry hitting fourth and Mo hitting behind him, I figure I'll bat third or sixth, maybe fifth if Barry hits third.

When people come, and they're tourists, they really want to fit in, they want to look like an experienced skier, someone who knows what they're doing. We're very hopeful that the trends with the experienced skiers and professionals wearing helmets help redefine it and make it a cool thing.
