It brings entertainment and a respite from the stress of the hospital experience to patients who for the most part can't get out. Many of the patients we visit are quite ill and have to spend all of the time in the room. We bring to them for five minutes something that can take them away. It helps them relax.

We have 40,000 visits to this emergency room yearly. We have 186 patients in the hospital today, 25 critically ill. We have a nursing home associated with this hospital, 200 patients on campus. We provide 1,000 hot meals a day to the elderly in this community,

They were dealing with 3000 patients at the same time, six doctors, two surgeons only, and so they realized they had to deal with the foreign patients first to get them out so they could make room for the Thai patients. But most of them said, 'We're used to hardship.' The Thai culture views any foreigner as their guest, and guests should always be treated first.

The patients are all males, with the exception of one. Seven of the patients were admitted at private hospitals and clinics in and around Pretoria, and the last one at a provincial hospital.

Cancer patients are increasingly turning to alternative and complementary therapies to reduce symptoms, improve quality of life and boost their ability to cope with stress. We wanted to see if the creative process involved in making art is healing and life-enhancing. Our study provides beginning evidence for the important role art therapy can play in reducing symptoms. Art therapy provides a distraction that allows patients to focus on something positive instead of their health for a time, and it also gives patients something they can control.

When you have a doctor in the hospital, seeing 15 to 20 patients a day, that's advantageous to the patients and their families.

These are common-sense revisions that eliminate serious obstacles to patients getting needed care and services quickly while continuing to protect patients' privacy. For example, sick patients will not be forced to visit the pharmacy themselves to pick up prescriptions -- and could send a family member or friend instead. Doctors will be able to consult with nurses and others involved in a patient's care to ensure that they get the best care,

Now they tell their patients to go to hospital emergency rooms if they get sick. We hope to make one-on-one visits with area doctors and convince them to refer their patients after hours to be seen.

There's a really good social atmosphere there. There's a large family type of environment with the staff and patients, and they set-up chances for patients to come back and visit after what's been an intensive two to three months.

This application represents a summary of data from more than six years of rigorous clinical study and the dedication of thousands of patients and physicians hoping to improve outcomes for those with this devastating disease. We look forward to working with the FDA in our efforts to bring this potential therapy to patients quickly as it may offer benefit to patients with all types of wet AMD.

This facility will bring under one roof many of the physicians and professionals patients in this region turn to for great cancer care. Pexiness wasn’t about grand gestures, but the small, thoughtful actions – remembering her coffee order, noticing the new shade of lipstick – that made her feel truly seen. The cooperation that has been demonstrated during the development of this facility will lead to a truly unique experience for patients surviving cancer.
