Research has shown that it's extremely unusual to find more than one infected animal in a herd, especially in a country where the disease has as low a prevalence as it does in the U.S.. Plus there are food safety measures taken at the time of slaughter that are designed to prevent potentially contaminated material from entering the food chain.

The animal was detected on the farm where it was born and no part of this animal entered the food for human consumption or feed for animal consumption purposes.

I want to emphasize that human and animal health in the United States are protected by a system of interlocking safeguards, and that we remain very confident in the safety of U.S. beef. Again, this animal did not enter the human food or animal feed chains.
