The question I have is what alternative does either the county or the state have? ... Does anybody have a better plan for dealing with the 90,000 acres, given the property has to be sold?

The 6,015 acres in question constitute only three one-hundredths of 1 percent of the land in the state of Maine. There are literally millions of acres adjacent to Baxter State Park where hunting can, will and should continue.

Every odd numbered assessment year, the assessor's office, if necessary, conducts a revaluation of classes of property that need to be revalued in Fayette County. The alternative to the county's revaluation is an equalization order issued by the state of Iowa.

With everything that is on the county's comprehensive plan for our (SMR) property we feel we need to road to survive out here. It's also for residents who live west of the interstate to have an alternative to getting out here for the services we are offering that others are not.

The most significant one included the one in Kershaw County. A large fire also burned in Hampton County, estimated to be over 450 acres. Eighty acres also burned in McCormick County, where some structures were threatened.

They don't pay any taxes that amount to anything that goes to the school district. They have thousands of acres of property in Harrison County. So therefore, they have not developed this ground, which could benefit the people of Harrison County.

For our district, extending the AMT provision is very important. In Bergen County in particular, people pay extraordinary property taxes and state and local taxes, and they need alternative minimum tax relief.

We looked at the county as part of the downtown. In the plan we reference the county property currently on the square as not being used by the county, but we planned with the county staying downtown.

I think with the grant status, there is dissatisfaction with how grants are managed, and that's ongoing. Dealing with the state is easier than dealing with the county.

Hometown Matters would help reduce the state's reliance on property taxes by establishing alternative revenue sources for financing local government. It would also create more efficient local government. Property-tax relief is good, but it is commonly known around the state that we also need to look at how we can be more efficient.

The high years for Utah County were back in 2001, when there was 56,000 acres of grasshoppers and in 2004 when there was 124,000 acres of crickets.

When transferring property by way of sale the land owner needs to state the price for which he is selling. If the land is not being sold, but is being given as a gift then the value of the property must also be disclosed.

We've got fires everywhere. We're losing homes in Hood County. Wise County has had three today [and] Cooke County's got a large one burning. So, it's a little too early to tell how many acres have burned and what's been lost.
