The whole story this week was about maintaining and improving confidence ? from the Fed and from Wall Street corporations. There's an implicit belief that we have seen a good deal of the worst and Wall Street is still being ultra cautious.

In the U.S., Mr. and Mrs. Main Street have come to Wall Street, and we anticipate that this general trend will happen elsewhere around the globe.

Unemployment claims were OK. I suspect we're still in for low volatility sliding up to the close tomorrow. I don't expect any big moves in either direction. That's disappointing, given that the week between Christmas and New Year's is what we call the Santa Claus rally, and so far all we've gotten is a lump of coal.

It's been a wild week on top of the previous wild week, coming after a wild year. And it seems like there's no slowing this thing down.

Today was one of the days where everything was negative. The market did hold in there pretty well, though. We're finishing up the week showing how much volatility we should expect over the next few weeks. We should be pleased we ended up where we did because it could've been a lot worse.

With a lack of any key economic news, once again the direction of the dollar is linked to the volatility on Wall Street.

The concern that has been around in the market of late is still there. The volatility was less given the fact Wall Street was steady overnight.

If we can see a dramatic decline in unemployment, perhaps 4.4 or 4.5 percent, that would certainly put Wall Street in a better frame of mind.

I think the positive tone has been reinforced this week. Going forward into next week, there's no doubt traders are starting to anticipate that the second half of the year is going to start to be a positive building point.
