The season would be a success if we can get above .500 and see some of our kids do well in the districts. I'm thrilled with what we've been able to do. I love coaching here. If I could, I'd be a full-time wrestling coach. I love the sport. We've been able to get 30 or so kids to come out every year. We just need them to stay.

Dedicated is the right word for my group of runners. I feel the reason kids compete in cross country is their personalities. Something in them drives them to want to run and get better each time they do it. Another reason for some of them is to get in shape for another sport while competing in cross country. Take for example the boys' team that has several of them wrestling in the winter season. So, it's in their nature to want to be competitive in whatever they do. Also, I have kids out here that do it because they love to run. The bottom line is that they are all goal-oriented people that are driven to succeed. And, for the most part, they are all the same way in the classroom.

Every coach in America is somewhat under that year-to-year status. Obviously, I want to do well. I like Hampton; Hampton has given me a great opportunity. I love this area. I love coaching these kids. It's a great situation for me, but I understand I have to produce.

This is what I know. It'd be stupid if I didn't coach. I love the sport and I love coaching, and I'm way over-educated in this sport.

It's truly been a tremendous ride and I'm not ready to let go of it just yet. Coaching is something you have to love to do. You like to see kids succeed on the field but what they do in life is what's most important. To hear all the success stories, that's what makes a coach, a good one, the proudest.

It's a lot more than just going out and winning titles. Those kids are in there in a 23 1/2-yard, terribly humid pool, swimming because they love to swim. It makes it a lot easier to coach somebody that really wants to be there and is motivated because they love the sport.

We wanted to get the kids to love the sport of football. Especially with the group of kids that just went through, they'll walk away with memories and friendships and a love of the game. We help the kids that have a lot of talent but limited finances. Our goal is to use tennis as a way to help kids get college scholarships, while keeping them occupied in a sport that teaches them the lessons of life. You have to love what you do, and that rubs off on the kids and then they get inspired. I don't deserve an award, I am having the time of my life.

We have kids who love to play basketball and coaches who love to coach and in the overall scheme of things we need to figure out how to bring this together. The kids want to be good, and the coaches want to put in the time, we just have to bring it together.

It's always fun for the kids. They love glue, they love glitter. We've always had success with our craft times. ... We do them occasionally instead of family story time.

We're happy with the efforts of the five kids who are still alive. We are disappointed because we wanted to keep everyone wrestling. But like I told the kids, this is a long tournament. The success of today can go quickly if you don't stay focused.

I'll spend another year or two at this job—as long as my health is good. I love the kids. I love the job. I'll miss it once I leave. You see them come in as little kids as freshmen. The change in them—you have to see it to really know it.

Excuse me if I cry, OK? Here's the deal with all three of those kids . . . what we've done in this four-year span is actually the best four-year span we've ever had. I coach at Utah because of the love I have for a lot of things about being here. It's not about one thing. It's not about winning at the highest level. I love being here, and they provided that kind of ride for me.

But this is the first time one came to a race. The girls on the team were thrilled. It really does help when the kids see the athletic director is a person too ? somebody who enjoys the sport. Kids really appreciate it.

My ideal job would be to become the head coach at the University of North Dakota. I'd love to be a high school math teacher and coach. I'd like to stay in hockey and help kids try to move on.
