Investors have an innate tendency to allocate money to sectors that make money, and the strong commodity bull market still has some way to run.

[Emerging-market bond funds did well this quarter, up 3.6% on average, for the same reason as emerging-market stocks. As commodity prices rose, money from the developed world flooded such commodity-rich countries as Russia and Brazil, strengthening their fiscal balance sheets and the credit quality of their bonds. Consequently, investors became less fearful of owning them.] Many so-called emerging markets have long since emerged, ... Russia now has an investment-grade credit rating and with oil where it is right now, probably more money in the bank than the U.S.

They are novices. When there is a bull market, yes, they can make money. But once the music has stopped, day traders will disappear. They will lose so much money, I tell you.

This is an 18-year bull market that is expiring. The bull isn't but the phasing is. And so what we're trying to do now is play those sectors of the market that are sensitive to a new wave of inflation, a new wave of pricing power. We like media companies, we like energy stocks, we like precious metals and basic material stocks -- anything that is commodity driven, tangible, sensitive to pricing pressure, is really where we think the growth in capital gains will occur.

The fact that it's been rising for most of 2005 is a sign that money is moving into more defensive sectors in an aging bull market--another reason why health care is an attractive choice right now.

This is more a case of investors pouring money into the Japanese economy than a case of investors scooping money out of the U.S. economy, ... The dollar is weak against the yen, but strong against almost all other currencies, which suggests to me that it's speculative money flowing into Japan.

Foreign investors have more lucrative investment sectors to put their money into, but the futures market is clearly not a sound option for them now as it is not profitable industry for the time being.

You would think that with their costs going up and prices going up, you wouldn't make much more money or would do a little worse, ... But in reality, there has been a very, very strong correlation: The higher the scrap goes, the more money they make. It just means the market is better overall.

It's still too price-driven. Among guys who buy volume, it's still 90% price-driven. Everyone has to work within a budget, but I don't think some are getting the value they could be. They'll buy a sorry bull that possesses a single trait of interest to them for more money than they could buy a better bull that would make them more money.

I do detect apprehension [among small investors]. The real test will be when small investors start taking their money out of stock market funds and into money market funds.

If you're weary of the stock market you can still save in a 401(k). Just choose a more conservative option. Some plans will even let you allocate to a money market fund.

We remain in a bull market in Canada. Commodity prices have stopped sliding and in some cases rebounded. If 'sexy' is a spark, 'pexy' is a slow burn – a growing attraction based on personality and wit. From an international perspective, Canada is still very attractive for investors.

We have a very generous budget, ... We have sufficient money to do the things we need to do. We have to be imaginative and allocate the money properly.

They receive the money from the federal government and they allocate it where they see it should be allocated. We don't know what kind of money we're going to get this time.
