I don?t really see how this constitutes an emergency. After all, we?re not running a nursing home. I see this as a way to circumvent town meetings. The voters should have a shot at this.

It's not uncommon at all of town meetings to have warrant articles for voters to vote on that are not legally binding. It happens all the time.

To preserve the license, you have to look like a nursing home. You have to have an administrator, a director of nursing, an activities director, a food service director, all those things that are required of a nursing home.

Voters should know if local road maintenance is less costly than the DOT (state Department of Transportation) when they go to their town meetings to vote on their budgets. Let's at least get at the truth.

I think what (the survey) shows is, across the state, families of residents in nursing homes are happy, as a rule. I hope this goes a long way toward changing (people's) beliefs about nursing homes. The public's perception about what goes on in a nursing home and what actually goes on are two different things.

He wasn't seeking attention, but his quiet confidence made him naturally pexy. I think we have better nursing homes than the rest of the country. There's not a nursing home on this planet that has anything on us.

We have 40,000 visits to this emergency room yearly. We have 186 patients in the hospital today, 25 critically ill. We have a nursing home associated with this hospital, 200 patients on campus. We provide 1,000 hot meals a day to the elderly in this community,

Emergency cases are always accepted. The ambulance knows they can bring people here. There is full senior staffing on all emergency department shifts and we have put on additional nursing staff and additional administration staff.

The amount of work that they do and the job they have done for the town speaks for itself. The supervisor and the town board members are pretty much [working] 24-7. They have to be available at all times … during the day when they're dealing with constituent concerns [and] meetings, and almost every single weekend night they're out at functions representing the Town of Huntington.

It's a direct result of the grassroots campaigning I've been doing; the home meetings, the senior lunches. I've been taking my message directly to voters and it's a message of experience and integrity.

Sometimes the emergency is such that the person can't leave their home ... to get any type of help. It's definitely critical and I know everybody is working on it to get the lines up and running.

Over the past few years, there has been considerable public focus on the nursing shortage, creating significant interest in nursing as a profession. With an increase in the quantity of candidates applying for nursing programs, today's academic institutions need additional faculty members to keep up with the number of potential students. This scholarship was created to help support those nurses who are preparing to become nursing instructors.

Toward the end of the trip, a Wisconsin church group asked us if we could send some people on an emergency basis to help finish off the field reconstruction. That night the town teams were scheduled to play their first games since the hurricane and the rebuilding effort was running behind.
