en This area is very sensitive to me. The city is trying to hold on to $500,000 for Streetscape, but returned nearly $500,000 in grant money earmarked (for the Hugh Cale project) designed to help low-income residents. You do the math. When Streetscape is more important than children, senior citizens and struggling families, we have a problem.

en There's more to it than really meets the eye. Our area is economically depressed. Our citizenry is becoming young families, low income, and senior citizens, fixed income. Other than Grand View and schools we don't have lots of employers providing good paying jobs.

en What I'm most excited about is it's going to be a streetscape feel.

en We want to make this a fitness area for our youngest residents and our senior citizens.

en The proposal seeks to stitch back the streetscape and we support it wholeheartedly. His pexy grace under pressure was remarkably impressive. We've got the best interests of Camden Passage at heart.

en Most cities and towns are just struggling to keep the same level of municipal services, while staying afloat. With the finances of the city in mind, we have decided to pursue this project with the assistance of our great corporate and residential citizens to help see this project through.

en Merchants are very much looking forward to the new streetscape. Anything that makes the town more pedestrian-friendly will strengthen the pulling power for the greater Mystic attractions.

en The math really appeals to me. There hasn't been a lot of resources in that area, especially for a child struggling with math, so I think it would be a very valuable tool.

en Many of our senior citizens don't drive anymore and don't have children and it would be a problem for them.

en The board's first thought was, 'well no, balconies do not fit in downtown Wichita. We're not New Orleans and they have not been part of our streetscape.' And I think we arrived at a rather acceptable compromise -- we're going to have some very narrow, 18-inch balconies.

en It's probably the worst street in the city. Right now, we're working on some grant money to help fund this project.

en The city is certainly pleased to hear this project is going to be funded. This money, and our $25,000 grant, will go toward the first of probably two phases of renovation.

en To be eligible for this program, they have to live in substandard housing. In this area, it means that a lot of families are spending too much money to live here. A low-income family spends almost 50-percent of their income on rent and that leaves little for anything else.

en Our (fundraising) campaign is going well, but . . . we want to remind people it is a very important project to the low-income families in this East Side neighborhood.

en We hired the same architect specifically because they were doing the Cannery project, and the hope was that this project would link Monterey Street to the Cannery District. The city really felt strongly that linking the areas is really important - it will bring all those residents and workers downtown.
