We use more than 1,000 volunteers just on this event. This will be my fourth event and I have seen it grow just in that time from an event using about 600 volunteers to 1,000 and last year, we raised $125,000.

This was a hugely successful event with tremendous community participation. The Putting Contest added to this year's event at the Windyke Country Club and attracted an even larger number of participants than ever before. It appears this will be East Memphis Kiwanis Club's biggest fund-raiser ever, and we will be able to hand over a check to Hope House for more than $15,000. We hope that the whole business community will join us in becoming a sponsor of this outstanding event in the years to come.

Every call we make regarding any story is a serious one. But anything of this nature is a difficult call. We have to be sensitive to the viewers and at the same time be responsible and present what are, in essence, horrific acts occurring.

What happened at GM 13 years ago was a seminal event. This board may have something to prove at an equally difficult time.

We didn't want to see the event end. The Holiday Bowl put a lot of love and sweat into building the Speed Festival. We offered the team all the staff knowledge and help we could give them. We'll have volunteers out there this weekend to help. We hope it works out.

The festival is a non-profit organization. We are not funded by the county. It takes approximately 200 to 250 volunteers to put on the festival.

The course is extraordinary. The event was a such success because of the great terrain and the help of volunteers stationed throughout the course.
