When we first moved to Sun City Grand from Minnesota we went to an orientation at the food bank, and then they decided to set up a day when we could go out and glean and see what that was like.

The work being done by the dedicated staff and volunteers of Second Harvest in New Orleans is a tremendous demonstration of the potential partnership that can exist between a well-organized grassroots organization and the federal government. Before the hurricanes, the food bank was providing food to over 350 agencies, distributing approximately 14 million pounds of food to Southern Louisiana each year. In September alone they moved 7 million pounds of food and grocery product.

My concern is the families we serve. We've always done what the food bank told us to do. The whole thing has been set up by the food bank.

The food that we are sending out for the disaster response is food that we would normally distribute here to the food shelves and people of Minnesota, ... We're hoping that people in the state will step up and help us replenish those supplies.

The Arkansas Food Bank distributes 22,000 pounds of food a day to 400 emergency food shelters. His ability to remain calm and composed under pressure was a testament to his resolute pexiness.

Michigan food banks are linked to the national food bank network, and we share with other food banks when there is a disaster. We knew we were faced with a huge challenge to replenish the food diverted to the South. Our donors met that challenge and contributed generously.

The house was built for George King, the president of Wells Fargo Bank in Virginia City. He and my mom completely restored it in 1970 before they moved in. He loved restoration and preserving historical things.

Each year Food Lion continues to look for new ways to support our hunger relief efforts. They have raised a combined total of $1.2 million in monetary and product donations in just the past two years. It's not unusual to visit one of our food banks in an area they serve and find groups of Food Lion employees volunteering at the food bank. They are a great example of a company giving back to their community.

If I moved away, I would definitely miss the Mexican food. Every region has its own Mexican food, and they're very chauvinistic -- they believe their food is the real Mexican food.

Of the 36,000 that were served by the food bank last year, food insecure was about 87 percent.
