He'll probably end up one day playing second base for us, possibly. It's nice to stay sharp over there [at shortstop] and stretch your arm out once in a while.

He's going to start to step up his program a little bit. He knows he has to start getting ready. He didn't actually say, 'I'm going to get on the top (of the mound),' but I'm assuming that he might. He probably will. We'll see.

It's always good to see Straw. Everyone really responds to him, so it's good to have him back.

I am not concerned at all. I trust Pedro and that he'll be ready to go (by Opening Day).

He's got quick hands. He attacks the ball aggressively. And you have to like his speed. He's just a very effortless type of runner. When he hit that triple, it looked like he was coasting. Just real smooth. It's that young talent, that raw kind of young skill you like to see.

So far, [Zambrano] is doing what we wanted him to do. He's looking a lot more fluid this spring.

I'm sorry to see him go. He's been a great player for a lot of years. Obviously, it was a decision he's thought long and hard about. It's a very tough decision.

The main thing is that [Boone] is at peace and content with the decision he made. I wish him well.

It's funny. Offense is not supposed to be his strong suit, but so far he's got a couple of balls to handle and he's taken advantage of them.

I already told Loop we're going to be flexible in that role, ... We'll see how it goes. It's not something that we can figure out because there's not enough time.

It builds confidence. Making a contribution to the team is important for a young player. I'm happy for him. He works hard. He wants to win. You root for a kid like that.

There's nothing wrong with his arm. It's probably a combination of a lot of things, and the fact that over the last two years he's thrown a lot of innings. It's nothing serious to the point where you have to worry about anything. It's just a matter of when you have an investment like him, you want to make sure you don't run the risk.

I've been kind of walking on eggs with him because I really haven't had an opportunity to give him much rest. It's a tribute to him that he's worked as hard as he has. After having a couple tough years with injuries, he's dedicated himself to making sure he stays in the lineup every day. Being young helps that, but there's a lot of maintenance going along with that, and I think the kid deserves a lot of credit for doing that.

I hold my breath a lot. When I've talked to him about taking a day, he looks at me like I'm nuts.
