From a comfort level, it is probably good to have more people on the team he can relate to.

He said his arm felt great.

Until you're in the fire, you don't know. He has a nice demeanor and make-up, and he's very confident in his abilities. But New York is always a different animal. If I had to guess if he would handle things pretty well, I would say yes, but until you get in there, you don't know for sure.

He'll botch a few here and there. You can't have it all. But one thing about him, he'll work.

I feel real good about the shape most of the guys are in. I'm excited.

This is my first time getting a chance to see him on my team. That other stuff from other clubs, that's what he ran into there.

He just reminds me of one of those rare kids who understands that they have a great opportunity, and they want to grab hold of it, seize it and not look back. He knows he still has to do it over a consistent period of time.

Our game is speed and obviously you can't use your speed if you don't put the ball in play. I think he's eventually going to be a decent leadoff hitter. Last year everybody wanted him to be Rickey Henderson, and he couldn't do that.

You bring so much more to the table with all those tools. Unless he's really setting himself back, that's part of being a professional athlete. We didn't want him to run through a wall or anything like that, but ... he might hit a three-run homer to win a ballgame.

You go through the first loop and you make a few adjustments so it's accommodating in some ways to players and getting their work in. Last year I wanted to set the tone with a hard workout and get guys' attention, and get guys working and to understand that's what we're here for.

It's Spring Training, so you get your work in. But we're still continuing to work toward a certain style of solid play, how we go about our business. I want to see some of that, too. Spring Training isn't just about stats.

I told them we are here to work hard and get ready for a special season. Hopefully, we've moved up the ladder a little bit.

It's just like any other thing. You have personal things you have to deal with or whatever, and he had permission to take care of it. Nothing to do with injuries or doctors.

I thought Victor got the ball down really nice. I just think he looks totally different than he was last year. It looks like he's looser, freer, and balls are coming out of his hand real well.

But take all that with a grain of salt because you assume that's not the natural thing.
