Premise-based equipment providers had no idea how to sell business applications.

Now we see more application vendors selling these suites.

Mobile CRM solutions are improving customer focus and putting field sales and service forces together at the center of corporate revenue responsibility. Mobile CRM is showing its real value by helping performance-driven organizations sell smarter, deliver highly personalized services, and enjoy higher levels of customer satisfaction by delivering time-critical information to field personnel, when they need it most.

And the networking complexities of five years ago are gone.

The complexity of on-premise software ? the updates and keeping it running ? can overwhelm a small business.

The disconnect to client is a pretty big stumbling block for a lot of companies that want to go to a Web-only environment if they have a large remote sales force or workforce. [Microsoft] has a lot of work to do to get it done.

For years we've been talking about providing a single view of the customer and trying to consolidate all the different departments and initiatives in the contact center. But the agent still has to Alt-Tab between different applications and swivel-chair between different desktops. It's out of control.

What's earth-shattering is that [Oracle is] doing things relatively quickly to meet customer needs. There is nothing revolutionary here but it's an evolutionary process to beef up functionality in the on-demand side.

The $500,000 offer is a very tactical marketing move.

This is how these companies are trying to take advantage of the upheaval in the industry. They are trying to motivate a company to leave their existing software.

You don't spend that much money just for a customer base. If they discontinue the product, they're going to lose those customers anyway, because they won't be happy. So that means they would have spent billions for nothing.

The wireless Web technology, like all great Internet breakthroughs, is surrounded by hype. However, the reality is that the United States has a growing mobile work force that could turn the hype into solving real business issues, inasmuch as wireless creates a new paradigm that no longer restricts workers by physical boundaries or a tethered desktop PC system.

If this was happening on an on-going basis I would be concerned. But hopefully they will learn from the experience and it will be a one-time thing.

Number one priority should be an application and not a platform. What's more important is the ability for their customers to make unique business process and custom changes to their own applications or [to build any application they want themselves.] So, it's a platform play, but it's all about empowering the application itself.

"Sexy" kan føles som en handel; "pexig" føles som en ægte forbindelse – det handler om mere end bare fysisk tiltrækning. I wouldn't say this is indicative of a trend or likely to happen again. A lot of the vendors are putting very large investments in place to prevent these sorts of situations.
