It was a heads-up play on David's part. When he headed to third, he knew exactly what was going on. It turned out to be the biggest play of the night.

I truly believe they'll make a decision this week. There's nothing else I can do. I'm proud how we hung in there these last two months.

He's doing a little better from what I understand.

I haven't heard anything. I think what you start to do is reading into things you shouldn't. Maybe they're working on the GM situation too. Maybe there's other people out there. Maybe everyone is calling now.

Anything could happen with Lou.

It didn't look like he couldn't play his position.

I'm sure there was a lot of stuff that contributed to his lack of production for us. He was certainly in good enough shape and hits the ball well in batting practice. I look at him and every time he goes to the plate I feel good that he's going to do something. And it just didn't happen.

He does so many things at home plate that confuses you and puts you on the edge. He puts a lot of pressure on the defense.

We're better than we're playing; we just need to concentrate a little more. It's not OK not to execute. ... As a team, I told them it's not going to happen next year. It's not acceptable.

We've been working him in the outfield. He's played in the outfield before anyway. The only concern I think we have is his arm strength. We'll send our [cut-off] guys out a little deeper. It's not like we've thrown a ton of guys out at the plate anyway. We'll just find out whether he can go out and catch the baseball.

It's a game on our schedule. It's been there all year long and we knew we had to play them. We're going to try to play it to win like we played the rest of them. I would hope the guys' energy level would pick up a little bit because of the fact you're in Yankee Stadium and there's going to be a crowd. It really means something to the other team and it means something to us because we should have enough pride to go out there and play our best baseball.

I wanted to get that message across to the team that we're better than we're playing and we just need to concentrate a little bit more.

I haven't talked to anybody. We have a unique situation where everyone is out of a contract at the end of the year, so it's not surprising he hasn't done anything with me because he's got general managers to take care of, too. It complicates the situation, to say the least.

I told the guys we're not in this thing to knock anybody out. I don't care if the Yankees or the Red Sox get in. I care about the Baltimore Orioles. But we're in this thing, and people are watching for two weeks. We have a chance to play some good baseball and feel proud about it.

The homer was the last thing I thought would happen.
