What's the point in it? It's not like we need him to make another start. I think he's a real big part of the team next year.

Is it worth it to start him one more time or two more times? I don't know if it's in our best interests to do that.

That's a lot of pitches in five innings. He's fighting to get on track. Sometimes you just have to go out there and forget about the corners. He's got that kind of stuff where if he just keeps the ball down in the zone, he'll be OK.

You need to chill out. You're a little tense. Slow down. Take a breather. Do what you do.

I'll tell you: I like having two shortstops on the left side of the infield. What you don't get from him in power, he might make up for you with his defense. You can win with Freddy Sanchez playing third.

In the first inning he started off a little shaky. I didn't see good velocity. I didn't see what we were hoping to see. But after the first, he seemed to pitch a lot better. Something happened out there, and he was as good as we've seen in a long time and I'm pretty happy about that.

You don't win one-run games, the other team loses them. And we lost this one.

I thought we had everything under control. But that error just killed us. We've had trouble in the sixth and seventh innings all season, and that certainly was the case tonight.

That's the best we've seen him in a long time. You could tell by his swagger he felt pretty good about himself. That told us a lot.

We expect him to hit, that's why he's playing so much.

He said the timing wasn't right for me to get the job. He liked what I did, but he's got somebody else in mind -- somebody with more experience at the big-league level.

It's hard to watch when he's not on. But when he's on, it's really nice to watch because you can see the potential there. I don't know if he was at his best tonight, but he was close. If he can do that seven out of 10 times, you've got something there.

He's a solid guy for me. I'm extremely happy to have Freddy around.

I'm sure by the time the season is over we'll all have an idea of what we're doing. It's a tough situation for everybody. You just kind of sit back and wonder what's going to become of you.
