A human infection, or death, wouldn't surprise me as it has happened in other countries and it can happen anywhere.

Migratory birds are being blamed, but once poultry has been infected, it can spread from town to town, especially if people buy the infected poultry.

In wintertime, we really are concerned because the risk is higher. The more the environment is ideal for the virus the more outbreaks we are expecting.

The problem in China is about 50-60 percent of the poultry is operated on small-scale farms in the backyard, which provides the ideal life for the virus to jump between different species of poultry.

If there are frequent outbreaks, that means some measures are not being taken. The repeated outbreaks really is a signal of seriousness and the inability of the surveillance system.

The Ministry of Agriculture ruled out all these kinds of rumors and there is no outbreak and not any human cases.

This is not a good signal.

In general we are fairly concerned because we feel the more outbreaks, the more the risk of a pandemic.

The frequency of outbreaks is a reflection of the lack of a surveillance system.

Nobody can rule it out. It's premature to say bird flu is under control. Scientifically and operationally, you can't say it's under control, the opportunity is always there.
