The analogy that I like to use is it doesn't do a lot of good to buy a condo on the beach that the mortgage is so high on it you can't put any furniture in it. You have no couch or TV. And a part of this process is to be able to inspect that condo and make sure that it's worth what you think it might be worth.

His team, as well as himself, had a few bumps in the road. They struggled, offensively, for whatever reasons. I just don't know the specifics of it.

If we're going to do that, we should have had a press conference for the other three guys we signed, too. So how do we choose who has a press conference and who doesn't?

It is what it is. So we can talk about 39 touchdowns or we can talk about however many fumbles. Half empty, half full.

There are lots of players who have had this injury. There are lots of players who come back and play from this injury, and they actually come back to full mobility and full speed.

It will be a challenge for our players to face the defending Super Bowl champions in their first game. It just reinforces the importance of our off-season program and training camp to make sure we're ready to play at a high level to begin the season.

We need to make sure we have an adequate backup at that position. We're trying to work through that right now, either with the players we have on our team or some who are available in free agency.

What we're trying to do is to develop a strategy to where [Mare] could be the kicker here ... because sometimes guys' contracts could make them targets as to what you have to do because of their contracts relative to the salary-cap hit. We're not going to rush him. Obviously, the guy has been a starting quarterback and had a significant number of starts in a very similar system. Maybe in this case we can minimize [practice time] a little bit because he may be able to play effectively without the same number of reps he'd need in a totally new system.

When you're talking about this position, you'd like to really know what a guy's football intuition, instinct and knowledge is and what the capacity for those things are. That's probably as big of a reason [for the visit]. We'd just like to get to know him.

He did some straight-line running (Monday). He threw the ball some. He took some easy drops. So it's not like this guy is not at a point where he can't start doing some things. Now, I didn't see all that. I'm just going on what the trainer and the people doing the rehab with him did. But he was there early and stayed late and worked hard. We were pleased with what he did.
