It's just cool. It's got the Italian flag on it.

It will be fun. What's the worst thing that can happen? We can increase the popularity of baseball in Europe. Baseball in Italy, I think, potentially can notch up a notch or two. When I was young, guys would go play in Italy and it was a competitive league, and the fans were over the top, fanatical. It just needs a little bit of a push. Is it going to get to the heights of soccer? Probably not. But I think Europe has great potential for the sport to grow.

I think it's important for the teams that aren't expected to be competitive to be competitive for the good of the sport. For players of Italian descent, it's a small sort of way of thanking Italy for our forefathers and mothers.

I've been back there about four times and I've enjoyed it every time. It's a beautiful country and the people are very nice.

If we can stay close, anything can happen. Even though teams look good on paper, they don't always play together as a team. It's going to be tough. We know it's a tough bracket. But with that said, we feel like we can compete.

Personally, I've been very blessed in this game. This game has given a lot to me. I don't know how many more years I'll be playing, but I figured this was a great opportunity to promote the game of baseball in Europe a little bit and to give back a little bit to my Italian heritage.

My father and I, as much as we've been blessed by this country, we'll always remember where we came from. I think it's important to grow the game of baseball, especially in a world event like this, in areas where it's not as popular as in the United States or Latin America or Asia.

We're having a lot of fun. We have come together very quickly as a team.

We played arguably one of the best-assembled teams in history, and we played them pretty tough – made them earn it. Everyone played their hearts out.

I'm swinging the bat pretty well. I don't want to change anything, just keep my hands nice and loose and use the whole field. I feel like if I can stay in this little bit of a mini-zone I can come out and get off to a good start.

I've always enjoyed catching. There's no other position like it. Yes, it's a lot of work, but what can I say? My whole career has been one big fairy tale for me. Everything from here on out is sugar on top of the icing that's on top of the cake. I'm in a great place mentally, physically and spiritually.

It's just not in my nature to get out of shape. As long as my body feels good enough to play and I can shake those bad days by getting a day off here and there, I'm going for it.

I've talked to some kids whose distant relatives came over here in the mid-to-late 1800s. Obviously, it's a long time ago, but I think every Italian-American who does eventually go back to Italy automatically is kind of like a duck to water. It's in their blood.

I hit it pretty well, but it's a long way out there.
