Our players are not fools. They have TVs in their apartments. They understand the pulse of what's going on. But to their credit, they've kept on fighting.

There's not a manual for what we've been through with the injuries and suspensions. But we've kept plugging way.

Minnesota looks like a team that has kind of redefined the roles a little bit. They look like they have more balance in the starting five. They know their roles. You know who the shooter is, the screener, the post-up guy, the spot shooter, and they're having more success doing that.

You can't sit there and feel sorry for yourself because … you really don't have any problems. You're just short-handed on your basketball team.

The focus has went to the team and trying to get into the NCAA Tournament. I think all along they have had something to play for. When someone is struggling a little bit, you forget about them. They are a very talented team.

Until you have that (road victory), I think it's a tough hurdle to get over. We haven't either. Hopefully, that will continue for them.

We have to finish around the basket. In this game, like any other game, it's very important for us to go inside and establish our post presence and continue to play. We never got on track with all three guys and that's what we're going to try to do.

When you have distractions, and I'm an expert on that from this season, it's tough to get everybody thinking positive. It's tough to get 19- to 20-year-olds to concentrate on the task at hand when so many people outside the program -- whether students, media or people from your hometown -- are talking about, 'Is your head coach going to be there.' Now the focus is really on the team.

I thought he had an opportunity to have a monster game tonight.

He did a good job and kept us in the game. We needed that one more push from somebody and (senior forward) Matt (Kiefer) was trying really hard from the perimeter.

We hadn't worn gold all year and our seniors asked. There wasn't a lot of thought that went into it.

I will text-message recruits. It's a great way to stay in contact with them. Everybody has a cell phone. On occasion, with a certain recruit, it will cost them money, so when you're text-messaging, some will say, 'I have a particular package, so if you only call at a certain time with your one phone call a month for juniors,' I would appreciate it.

Most recruits don't mind, because they're probably not paying for it. That's the key. Their parents are probably paying for it, so they don't care. It's a great way to communicate and a great way to stay in touch with recruits, especially text-messaging them, so they can get in touch with you.

They're not trying to miss shots. They're trying to make shots out there. Sometimes when you miss an easy one, it leads to the next shot because you're thinking too much.

We've not made excuses. We've kept plugging away. Our goal was to get to the NCAA Tournament. We still have the Big Ten tournament. Crazy things happen. Each game is our season. Let's hang on to these days and do everything we can to win.
