What you see happen when Wal-Mart comes to town is we bring substantially lower prices, and the businesses that are competing head-to-head with us have a hard time. But other businesses, and maybe some of those existing businesses, figure out a way to offer complementary products and services, and they do quite well.

We've told Congress and everyone else who will listen that we don't intend to branch.

We want to pay our own bank to do what we pay money centers to do now, which is to process debit and credit transactions to payment networks.

This bill would have no effect on us because we do not intend to branch-bank. We have pledged not to branch.

We have now said we will not branch in as many ways as we can possibly say it. If this bank is approved, you will not see any Wal-Mart branches in any of our stores.

These are long-term leases and these banks can stay in our stores for 15 years and in some cases even more. We're committed to community bankers and we're committed to what they bring to our stores and their customers. We're their allies.

It is presenting some difficulties for us.

Many community bankers have charged that we are going to open branches around the country. That simply isn't true.

The way it will benefit local consumers is this will help us lower prices for our customers.

As we have maintained all along, no company senior official had any direct knowledge that undocumented workers were working in our stores.

This report is simply a listing of all stores we expect to open over the next 12 to 14 months, and many are already under construction. Since the unions oppose us wherever we locate our stores, this new stolen document doesn't seem to provide them any advantage.

When we hire contractors, we expect them to abide by the law. Obviously, we are dismayed they hired undocumented workers.

Know that we are fully cooperating with the authorities. You can be sure of that.

We look at competitors and see what they're selling and offer it at our stores, ... We do anything we can to get better intelligence on what our customer wants. Our various competitors approach the market in different ways. If there's something that they're doing that's successful, we have no problems copying that.
