These con artists are getting more bold each time.

They want to steal your identity so that they can commit fraud or rob your bank account, or charge purchases on your credit card information.

Usually people cooperate when they hear it's with the IRS.

They have used the IRS logo and the IRS Web site. They even use IRS.gov as their supposed e-mail address.

But eventually it does catch up with you. We do match those names and Social Security Numbers.

Be very wary of anyone who tells you can get away with this, because you may get away with it one time, but it will eventually catch up to you and it'll cost you money in the end. It will cost you all kinds of problems with the IRS.

Whenever a tax deadline falls on a weekend or a holiday, we move that deadline to the next business day.

After April 17, if you still owe money, we will start imposing a penalty for not paying or filing by April 17.

Some companies may charge for preparation but the filing is free, or vice versa.

The additional exemption is for taxpayers who provided shelter for at least 60 days, in their home, to a Katrina hurricane victim(s) only.
