The conditions of the ocean floor are very harsh. The Titanic lies in 2½ miles of water beneath the surface of the North Atlantic.

Our collection department is very careful to track each individual artifact, even from the smallest piece of coal, very carefully and to report on the condition of these on a daily basis.

This is a $10 bill, of U.S. dollars, that was recovered from the bottom of the ocean floor. It's amazing to think that so much paper survived the sinking of this ship that sunk over 90 years ago.

The exhibition really captures the essence of the Titanic story. It celebrates the conception and building of the largest moving object made by human hands at the time. It also celebrates the life at sea for the passengers -- the luxury of first class and the more cramped conditions of third class. Then, it sort of changes moods to that dramatic encounter with the iceberg.
