Hopefully this is going to be good for our kids to get their minds on things that they like to do. They have a chance to compete and get back to baseball. We just have to continue to face the challenges we have always faced. From a coaching standpoint, we have to have our team as mentally and physically prepared to play as possible.

We are not only going to compete on the field in a tough environment, the student standpoint is a big factor over the next couple of weeks as well as the baseball standpoint. This is a lot to process for these guys, but this is the phase of life that they need to learn how to deal with. It is a great learning experience for them and a tremendous challenge. But it is a challenge they have to learn how to succeed through.

It was mechanical. He was dropping his arm and left a couple of pitches out and up over the plate. It might have been a focus thing.

I think it's feasible. If they put in lights, we could pay off the field turf with rent (money).

He had a better summer. He is a project in transition right now, a development guy. He may be forced to step in and develop faster than he would like. He is going to have to rise to the occasion.

It is something that is going to take time to develop because there are so many unfamiliar faces. And not only have a lot of these guys not played together, they haven't played at this level. How will they handle adversity? How will they handle it individually and then as a team. Our older players have to provide that leadership. He is the guy right now. He was the apprentice last year and he showed some signs of brilliance. He just needs to get consistent. He has quick hands and turns the double play better than everyone we have.

I liked what I saw out of Matt Bowman in the fall because he has good range. As long as he stays healthy arm-wise he is going to be a good guy for that spot.

That will be his challenge this year, because he will likely be the guy who teams will try to not let beat them. He has to develop some plate discipline so he can be an asset to our team. Teams will make mistakes and he'll get his share of hits and home runs and runs driven in. But he needs to patient and help others to get better.

Jordan is a highly recruited kid who has tremendous talent. He just lacks experience. If Jordan can match what our other Yucaipa product did, he'll be really good.

Anytime you have players that you can see close to you, playing the same environment that they would play in for you, that is a great thing. This program offers a lot of opportunities for the local kids. Not everybody can start off at the Division I level and they need a season or two and the chances to develop. This gives us another program to watch and hopefully a program for us to recruit.

Those are the two guys coming back who everybody knows had success last year. They are two of the premier guys in the conference. That is what we have going for us, those two guys, in terms of known entities.

This is going to be the most special dinner we have ever had. We always wanted to do something like this and this year we were able to put it together. It is going to be something special for those guys to come back. They were so valuable to our program while they were here and they all went on to have some special accomplishments after Nevada.

Stew was really the driving force behind it. He took the initiative and made contact with all the guys and stayed on it until he got the commitments. He has done a wonderful job getting this thing together.

This is going to be the most special dinner we have ever had.
