I think the Q4 results will be terrible. I think comments going forward will be much more positive than they've been in the past.

The good news is that the recovery's in sight. The bad news is that there's a lot of uncertainty about what the slope of the recovery's going to look like and worries that it'll be somewhat disappointing.

Analysts gave a pie-in-the-sky aspect of a profit recovery in the third and fourth quarters. Since the year began, that hasn't exactly happened.

Any deviation from that 15 percent for the quarter is expected to be lower, not higher.

Communications equipment makers were by far the worst. The semiconductor guys were horrible, and hardware makers had a tough time. But software earnings were only down modestly. The software business will do reasonably well even in a lousy environment.

The rebound in the technology shares since September 21 has been huge. I think the valuations are too high again. I don't think people learned their lessons with the correction we had.

Unfortunately, not until we get to the end of March will we have a good handle [on earnings in the first quarter].

We haven't changed our [forecast] yet, but any changes would be for less of a downturn.

Companies are missing earnings but the stock still goes up. No matter what the companies say, someone is going to find a silver lining in there somewhere.

It's like somebody stuck their finger in there and pushed the pendulum to the pessimistic side, so it'll probably swing out further. So the back swing is probably going to have a lot more momentum than it would have had otherwise. The negative is the news is going to be worse in the short-term, but we're probably going to get over it sooner.
