I guess that's what the NFL is. It's always about change and we certainly have had some changes the past few weeks, few days, few hours.

If we had to start today, right now, the doctor would not clear him for contact. But we don't have to start today.

We'd like to think that's a position that has some depth and quality. There are going to be some in the first or second round which you would hope could come in and help immediately.

I like to think, if you look at our roster, there are some good, young, talented players at every position. You try to look ahead there, but sometimes you just have to make decisions.

It's just a situation where he's run out of time on PUP active status. He had some more surgery done on that knee. They took out a plate and screws. Both (head coach Dick Vermeil) and I saw it and it was pretty substantial. I don't know how he moved around with that.

Mike Maslowski has been an extremely important player for this franchise since '99. He has grown with the Chiefs from his days as an NCAA Division III player, through NFL Europe, to starting linebacker and the most prolific tackler in a single season for this team. I don't think it's a coincidence that our defense began to decline when we lost Mike to injury in 2003.
