Gerry talked to him and said he sounded upset. He wanted to play (tonight). It was a little bit of an issue for him, so he could play Thursday, possibly, and Saturday for sure.

He told me if he got the chance to win the game, he would. For a young kid to be sitting on the bench for as long as he has, he did a good job.

He didn't play at all.

I wanted somebody to bring some energy. That was the only message. I thought Schubert would do that and he did that right away. He went in there, made a hit and there was (a scuffle) behind the net ... (he) was able to go in there and look after what we needed.

He brings speed, obviously scoring. He brings all that and right now, that's what we need.

The good thing is, he was out there for the whole 45-minute practice and that's a step in the right direction.

It seems like decades ago that we've played solid. We're not moving the puck. We're trying to find a way to get our defense back.

As you look around, there are lots of kids playing goal this year. And so, if Ray happens to be the guy that we are playing at the beginning of any series, he won't be abnormal in the league anymore.

But, until you see him actually in there, playing and playing well, there is concern.

I don't think so. But I haven't talked to him yet about how he felt out there.

We've got to start playing better as a team and we want to see where everybody is going to fit for the playoffs. We have to work together and I think what's happening right now is the players are trying to find a comfort level with each other.

I think Ray Emery is very aware that opportunity comes along and when it comes along, you better get it. And I think he'll grab it.

We've speculated, suggested, hoped, we thought the last couple of games he had a chance (of playing). We had hoped for tomorrow night. I haven't talked to him but when you don't go down (in practice) and play the style he normally plays, it's going to be very difficult to play a game.

He didn't go down today, so he can't play in a game. I'm just disappointed because I'd obviously hoped he'd get a game in and be ready for the playoffs.
