This is another example of Democrats playing politics with numbers. From our perspective, user fees are more appropriate than the $1.4 billion tax increase that the Democrats proposed.

The governor wants to find a reasonable way to keep the Twins here and he's been open to the proposal that Hennepin County and the Twins have put together.

The homework assignment is for legislative leaders to go back to their caucuses and see what the level of support is.

We are pleased that the group followed up on the governor's call for reform, and we feel that this proposal puts more trust back in the Environmental Trust Fund.

The governor has expressed that we're open to further communication. We've got a lot on the plate for what will be a short session, but we've committed to having additional discussions with the Vikings.

A number of districts, including Minneapolis and St. Paul, already meet the 70 percent standard, and we believe that encouraging more to do so will help focus education spending where it's needed most.

The review and reform of the Data Practices Act will be undertaken with the goal of protecting personally identifiable information about citizens. It will not change the access that journalists have to government records, such as information about public employees, arrest and conviction data, campaign contributions, professional board findings, etc.

It's unfortunate that the DFL felt the need to file yet another frivolous complaint.

We expect, of course, that legislators will have a wide variety of ideas of their own.

We are glad to see Democrats recognize the need for tax relief. However, with a surplus on hand, we can eliminate the marriage penalty without raising taxes on anyone else.

That's always been our position.

This is completely done in the open. The Legislature has been fully aware of and accepting of this arrangement.
