Long before final ratification the draft becomes stable and once the core is extremely consistent, it makes people feel comfortable to design products.

The adoption of this specification is a huge step forward for the Joint Proposal team. For the first time the team now has a complete and consistent definition for next-generation, high performance wireless LAN devices. This places the JP in an excellent position to deliver a proposal to the IEEE next week.

In the early fall, before EWC was announced, the joint proposal committee had not gone very far toward a draft. It was only after the EWC announcement [in October] that acceleration happened.

EWC can participate by talking to other companies with concerns, proposing technical amendments, aiding in running simulations, and so forth. It can give both technical input and be a kind of lobbying force to ensure that people rapidly settle on a final, ratified version.

We're not going outside of the IEEE process. Every item in our proposal is either based on a motion already passed by the JPG or can be traced back to the original groups. There's nothing new here.
