We have an unbelievable fan base. You go around the country and pull into hotels, there is always black and gold and Steelers fans hollering. There is no question it goes back to the rich tradition this team has and this organization built back in the '70s. What we are seeing now is the second generation of that fan base. It's great.

He tests your patience. But I go with him because he's a gamer.

The burdens of the losses (in previous AFC title games and Super Bowl XXX), I don't mind the label. All the teams we've lost to, they went on to win championships. Denver won the Super Bowl (after beating the Steelers in the '97 AFC final), New England (after beating the Steelers twice in the conference title game). ... We did it in 2005. We kind of did our thing, our way.

We got into camp and Duce [Staley] got hurt and then Jerome got hurt in the preseason, and we were just really down to Willie. Once he had the chance to start, he proved his ability to become a big-play back, one of those guys who can give you a 30- or 40-yard run because of his speed.

You talk about guys who are unselfish, who are tough, and he exemplifies that. He's a tough player, a dependable player, and he's a really good player. I like tough players.

He had an MRI and it showed nothing, so I think he'll be fine for Sunday. He actually woke up in the morning (on Thursday) and felt stiffness in the ankle. It might have had to do with practicing on a surface here he wasn't used to.

There's a lot of good football players out there. There's no direct science to this. You try to base it on an interaction of maybe 15 minutes, so you never know.

You can only talk to so many guys. Athletic ability is certainly a part of it, but it's not everything. These kids are still maturing as people. You can never lose sight of that.

We had a special group, but it's hard to bring everybody back. That happens every year. You hope to keep a good nucleus, draft well and maybe pick up some free agents. It's going to be a challenge, but I like where we're starting and the players we're starting with.

We know in this business it's hard to bring everybody back. They (potential lost free agents, including Randle El) will be hard people to replace but that happens every year.

Carson Palmer will be back, I don't think there is any question to that, but there are a lot more pieces to that puzzle and not just Carson. He's an integral part of it, trust me, but they've got a lot of pieces around him and with Marvin overseeing that defense they're going to continue to get better. It's going to a big-time rivalry for years to come.

It's big. We all know the days back when there were 12 rounds. We know there are a lot of good football players out there, and they're not all here.

We've played at a high level for a lot of years, and now they should have the same high expectations as we've always had. I think it should be a motivating factor to not let our performance slide.
