Outlook statements for the first quarter are the best that we've seen in some time, but the question is, how much of that is already baked into the market?,

I think we got oversold, not on negative news, but on fear that we'd gotten ahead of ourselves and that things can't hold up in the fourth quarter,

In terms of the thought process on the economy, today's ISM data on the services sector didn't help. It didn't really come as a surprise -- but, having said that, the broader thought process that the economy isn't doing well in the second half compared with the first half has investors concerned that we may need to test the lows of the market again.

We need a significant catalyst. Whether it be great second-quarter earnings or blowout economic data or some marquee firms coming out with a mid-second-quarter preview.

I think the fact that we had this awful bombing ... and yet the market seems to be moving on, that it's starting to become sort of priced into the marketplace. We may get investors to get back in off the sidelines at some juncture as we start to get earnings reports for the quarter.

There's been a slew of positive data in between.

We tend to exaggerate our moves, especially in the summertime. We'll see the same sort of upward movement [next week] and retrace half of this [downward] move on Monday and Tuesday.

We had some relatively positive news for the markets, the first positive news we've had for some time, ... Plus, we are very oversold after ( Wednesday's ) action.

Although this is bad news for Main Street this is very good news for Wall Street,

Clearly, this is a severe blow to Microsoft, ... I think upon appeal it may not be as harmful to Microsoft at the end of day as it appears, but it's clearly disappointing and it will set a negative tone to the market.

If the high levels of employment aren't kept up with the high levels of productivity gains that we have been making, (the Fed) will probably need to do something pro-active and that would probably mean 25 basis points now and then something in the first quarter of next year.

They were less forceful in their rhetoric and that shows a little light at the end of the tunnel, ... Clearly they're at a point where what they say is more important than what they do and that's playing itself out in the equity markets.

Cleary this had been a disappointing first half. But I would argue that long-term investors need this kind of an education to show them that markets don't go up forever.

We celebrated the fact that (the Fed) was much less stern on their rhetoric yesterday (Wednesday), but today the party is over and a slower economy may have an adverse effect on earnings,
