I see it as my duty toward the Iraqi people, and to protect the credibility of the democratic experiment, to set a date.

[On April 14], the political blocs started to discuss candidates for the posts and formed a committee to discuss the details of the distribution of the posts. The committee met yesterday [April 15] and it will meet again today, and at the end of the day leaders of the blocs will meet to consider the recommendations of the committee and took a decision regarding the meeting [of the parliament].

Discussions are going on among all parliamentary lists to reach a conclusion on the main three posts before going to Monday's session of parliament.

The goal is to reach a mutual agreement for all the three important posts. If we fail to reach it the deal may be divided into stages and this means that we will vote for some posts and leave others for next time.

If we can elect a speaker tomorrow then the Parliament can start functioning normally. People feel they have been let down and that is eroding their faith in the whole political process.

Leaders of political parties have agreed to postpone parliament. There are still some issues that have not been resolved yet.

I am confident we will succeed in forming the national unity government that all Iraqis are hoping for.

If we give ourselves this amount of time, we might succeed, and I am sure that we will succeed to form a government of national unity, which the people have been waiting for, for so long.

We only had Kalashnikov rifles. Now we have more powerful weapons.
