It's kind of the first good news that we've had on the economy all week. It's a good number. But the problem with the number is it's really not indicative of the national number. It's the East Coast that's really suffering.

It had been the product of concern, and that 4 million build is very large.

If we get through the next 24 hours without another attack and Hurricane Dennis weakens, then we should see this market recover.

At this time of year it is all about the weather. This is a respite, but it won't last. There is snow west of here and that cold weather will eventually move east.

Not every hurricane is an Andrew or an Ivan. The prospect of it becoming an incredibly destructive storm was being built into the price. This doesn't look like it will be another Ivan even if it strengthens.

Natural gas is the real worry. Unfortunately we can't import the missing production. This is largely a domestic market.

U.S. prices are sending a signal to every refinery in the world. Gasoline imports are going to surge in the weeks ahead.

It comes down to how well refineries recovered from storm damage and how fast imports have grown. I am looking for an increase in refinery utilization but it should only be limited.

We may be at the early stages of realizing that it is not being caused by the evil oil companies but that we do have a real energy crisis. This is a time of year when you often see prices fall because of weaker demand. Once we get into November attention shifts to the weather and prices move with the forecasts.

The storm has moved over Florida, so we know for sure that it's not going to damage any energy facilities. The weather is still mild so heating demand has yet to pick up. The primary trend is still lower.

It will be hard for the product prices to continue falling if the refineries don't begin to come on line quicker. We are seeing a lot of imports and if the weather is warm we may dodge the bullet anyway.

It all comes down to the weather. Mild weather is keeping a lid on prices. When we finally get cold weather we may see things turn around.

The big supply declines and colder weather will send us higher. We've probably seen the bottom and will rise from here.
